VMware and Microsoft Upgrades part 1

This is the beginning of a series of articles from CJT about utilising VMware to assist with Microsoft server upgrades.

It is a pleasant surprise to find out that you can prepare for one of Microsoft’s Exchange SP2 Plus MPS HMC 4.5 Rollup6 upgrades using rehearsals.

I was recently asked to upgrade Exchange 2007. I am not a really clued up Windows Administrator but I was told that we would be doing a few dummy runs before doing the real thing.

A problem with arithmetic

Three decades ago I encountered a problem written up in the Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) and I cannot recall the exact date it was published.

Basically the problem was to find the volume of intersection of a sphere with radius of 1 unit and a square based pyramid with sides of 2 units and height of 2 units. As stated in the following week’s SMH edition the author indicated that this problem couldn’t be solved by simple calculations or application of calculus. The only known way of arriving at an answer was to calculate an estimate.
